Wash Day

I ended up skipping my wash day last weekend and I didn't co-wash during the week, so after two weeks my hair was begging for water and a deep conditioning session. My scalp was still happily itch and flake free (thank you ACV!) but after moisturizing and sealing nearly every day, it was definitely time to remove the build up from my strands.

[1] I started off by co-washing with As I Am Coconut Cleansing Conditioner.

[2] Next I tea rinsed with mix of chamomile, fenugreek, green tea, lavender, and sage that I brewed last week but froze for the week (shown here) after I decided to skip last weeks wash.

[3] After using my hands to squeeze out the tea (I didn't rinse it out) I wrapped my hair in a towel to soak up any excess liquid and then deep conditioned with Kurlee Belle Banana Nut & Avocado Deep Treatment over night. This was my first time using this deep conditioner. It has a gel-like consistency and it felt great in my hair . . . I may or may not have spent a 1 or 2 minutes just running my fingers through my hair because it felt so nice haha. It detangling and conditioned nicely.

[4] After rinsing out the deep conditioner the next day, I sprayed my scalp and hair with my apple cider vinegar + water mix. I did not rinse the ACV out of my hair, instead I squeezed the excess liquid from my hair with my hands, and wrapped my hair in a cotton t-shirt for 30 minutes.

[5] Once my 30 minutes were up I sectioned my hair into four, then divided each quadrant into three sections to detangling after applying my leave-ins: Kurlee Belle Thirsty Kurls Leave-In Conditioner and Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. This leave-in conditioner was another first for me. It smells just like baby powder to me, sunk right in and softened my hair.

[6] After detangling, I stretched my new growth using the tension method (check out this post for more on this method) and my blow dryer (using cold air).

[7] Once my hair was detangled and new growth stretched, I applied Eco Styler Gel to my edges and tied my hair down with a scarf while it air dried in bun. Normally I use aloe vera gel, but at 34 weeks post (remember when I though 16 weeks was impossible!) I need more hold in my life to keep the frizzies away.

I've been just itching to flat iron my hair for the last two weeks but it's wash days like this one that make it easy to keep putting it off. Air drying in a bun helped smooth out my hair, making it easy to pull my hair into a simple ponytail the next day. And am I the only one that goes through a pack of Goody ouchless hair bands every couple of months? Either the darn things snap or just disappear into some black hole. Probably the same black hole where most of my bobby pins now live.

Due to the length of my hair, a ponytail is no longer a protective style because my ends rub against my shirt (and coat) so this ponytail maybe lasted half the day before I tucked my hair into this loose bun (held together with four bobby pins).

How was your most recent wash day?

i'm so sorry if youve answered this before, but I NEED to know what you moisturize your new growth with on a daily basis? I'm (struggling at) 17 weeks post to keep my new growth moisturized!! I'm falling out of love with ors moisturizer and dont know where to turn. I know you use Darcy's moisturizer but is there anything special you do to your new growth to help keep it moisturized?
