Smoother Edges with Aloe Vera Gel

I posted last week on successfully laying my edges using Eco Styler Gel in Smoother Edges Part I. I've found a second gem for my edges in aloe vera gel. Aloe vera gel doesn't hold as long as Eco Styler does, but it leaves my hair softer and more moisturized than Eco Styler. This is the first time since the beginning of my HHJ that I've finally won the frizz war against my edges... y'all just don't know how happy I am haha. It took a while to get here but all that matters is that I'm here. I feel like I've blossomed, LOL! I'm a little annoyed I wasted money on other gel products when Eco Styler was available at the nearest CVS or Sally Beauty and aloe vera gel at the nearest Whole Foods, but eh... that's the nature of a HHJ right, trial and error.

  1. Looks good! Thanks for the reminder that a HHJ is trial and error. You really learn as you go and it takes time. *talking to myself here* :)

  5. That's my method!! My damp hair is usually from green tea + glycerine spritz. This morning I watched my waves, smiled and thanked God for helping me manage my hair.

    1. Time does fly. Right now I'm not sure when I plan on doing my next touch up. I'd love to see if I can successfully stretch for 6 months, but right now I'm just going with the flow :)

  7. I have noticed that my hair likes products that have aloe vera gel. I use Kurl Pop from Shi-Naturals. It has aloe vera gel and flax seed gel. I love that it leaves my edges moisturized.

  10. Finally tracked down 99.9% aloe vera gel here in Hong Kong and - wow - my edges are laid! I'm 8 weeks post and now my hair looks around 3 weeks post. I may be able to stretch past my usual 11 weeks with this baby. Thanks for the tip!

  11. are there any other brands of aloe vera gel that you have tried? I went to sprouts and all they had was lily in the desert and sun harvest.

    1. Hi Anon, no I've only used Fruit of the Earth brand but so long as it's 100% aloe vera gel, I think either brand should work just the same.

  12. Hi Jen,
Is aloe vera juice/gel safe to leave in your hair or do you need to rinse it out? If I were to incorporate it into my regimen as a leave-in, it would be best to use it before applying the oil in the loc method, right?
    Thanks
