Wash Day

(1) Pre-pooed with Hair Trigger on my scalp and safflower oil on the length of my hair (heated up the oil before applying). (2) I shampooed with Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Shampoo. (3) I did a green tea rinse using two tea bags and 12 ounces of water. (4) I applied Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Treatment to my hair for a few minutes, then rinsed. (5) I used my Gold N' Hot conditioning cap (I've had it since 2009 and it's still going strong) and deep conditioned with KeraPRO Restorative Treatment(6) Because I haven't done a clear rinse in ages, I did one today using Adore (#10 clear). I applied the rinse to my hair, covered with a plastic cap, and sat under my conditioning cap for 15 minutes.

(7) After rinsing out the Adore rinse, I squeezed the excess water from my hair and wrapped my hair in a cotton t-shirt for about an hour. As I mentioned in my post last week, My Regimen Explained, I recently switched to detangling after my hair has dried a bit. My hair was still damp when I ditched the t-shirt so I left it alone to dry a bit more.

(8) My hair was about 80% dry when I applied my leave ins: Silk Dreams Hair Care Mocha Silk Hair Milk and Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum then detangled with my Hercules Sagemann 5580 seamless wide-toothed comb. Even though it took me 45 minutes to detangle my hair (because I go slow and really there's just a lot now) doing green tea rinses and letting my hair dry a bit before detangling seems to be paying off because I lost a very small amount of hair. (9) After detangling, I left my hair alone to go about it's airdrying business.

My intentions were to do a braidout but um, what had happened was... (10) I fell asleep while on webcam with my BF and when he realized I was nearing the point of no return he woke me up and reminded me to wrap up my hair for bed. I loosely bunned my hair, covered it with my silk scarf and drifted right back off to sleep. (11) My overnight bun tamed the fluffiness so in the morning when I took down my bun I was able to pull my hair into a simple, smooth ponytail.

  1. Hey, great post. I've noticed that you've been using Hair Trigger for a while and I was wondering if you would be willing to do a review on the product. Do you think it has encouraged your hair growth?

  2. Your hair is beautiful!!! I know you also use hempseed oil so of course I went out & got some however it says to refrigerate after opening so I was wondering how you stored yours and if u think it would be ok to leave it out if I used it in an oil mix that contains tea tree oil?

    1. Thank you! I store it in the fridge. To be on the safe side I'd store the mix in the fridge. Better to store it in the fridge rather than risk wasting money because the oil spoiled. It also might be okay not to refrigerate it, but better safe than sorry.

    2. Lovely wash day post as always Jeni. Actually I would definitely store hempseed oil in the fridge. It's got lots of Omega 3's that turn rancid very quickly. Basically along the same lines as you would store ground flaxseeds or flaxseed oil in the fridge.

  4. "How was your wash day?" - Well, nothing like yours... but I look forward to having long fluffy hair someday too. If I can stay consistent for the next 3 years! Thanks for sharing consistently. Keeps me inspired :)

  5. I am soooooooo going to start doing consistent tea rinses!! You are solid proof of how it decreases shedding, awesome! On another note, I roller set religiously, and thus almost always detangle whilst my hair is still pretty wet. I would love to try detangling on damp/slightly dried rather than wet hair, but rollers don't like slightly dried hair. Advice please???

    1. Use a spray bottle to re-wet the hair prior to rolling it onto the roller. I've tried that method in the past, letting my hair drying a bit to detangle, then re-wetting it right before I rolled it onto the roller and my set came out fine.

  7. My last day was amazing :D. I actually tried applying shampoo via applicator bottle and didn't know what I was doing before that. Plus I tea rinsed with 2 bags of oolong and 1 hibiscus bag and tried rinsing after applying my aussie moist. But what took the cake was trying silk dreams vanilla silk under my steamer for about 20 min. although it was my first time trying this product I was shocked at how great my tresses felt afterwards. Im going to try the same combination this week to see if I get the same results. HHG

  8. Do you lose any hair while in the shower?

    1. Yes, for this wash it was 10 strands... i only remember the number because it was the same out my most recent wash and I collect my strands from the drain as I wash to prevent clogs.

  9. Much better than the last! My breakage is at a minimum now and I am so very happy. I clarified my hair this wash day and was sure to deep condition with heat. My hair felt great. I had a little trouble with detangling, but my hair is very tangle prone, so it was not a cause for alarm. I think I will try to incorporate a smoothing conditioner to see if that will help with the tangles.

  13. Hi, I would like to know what a clear rinse is.

  14. Hey Jen, have you tried detangling your hair in the shower in small sections whilst you have the conditioner still in it? It use to take me 45 mins or so to detangle outside of there but as long as I add porosity control to my conditioner, wash in about 8 braids and use the force of the shower to get the tangles out, I'm don't in about 8 minutes. Keep up the hard work. Lonei x
