Today's Braid Out

I just wouldn't be me if my hair didn't end up in a bun at some point in the day :) I threw my hair up into a bun once I got home.
I tweeted yesterday about attempting bantu knots... then 20 minutes later I updated that I quit. It just wasn't working out for me! I just couldn't get about 1.5 inches of hair from my scalp to wrap tightly in the knot. Had I left them in, I would've ended up with tight, nice spirals from the knots with puffy texlaxed hair at the roots. That's not cute!

After taking down the few bantu knots I had made, I sectioned my hair (eventually into 8) and moisturized from root to tip with Darcy's Botanicals Coconut Lemongrass Transitioning Creme and then sealed with Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum. After sealing, I braided my hair into 8 braids and pinned them as if I were cross-wrapping my hair to avoid weird bends in my hair the next morning.

In the morning, I unpinned my hair, rubbed a little hemp seed oil on my fingers and gently unbraided my hair. There wasn't a lot of definition from this braid out because it was done on dry hair but a tip on Facebook (thanks LaToya E.!) is that I cover my braids with a plastic cap (think of baggying) to dampen them for more definition.

  1. That cross wrapping tip is golden. I never know what to do with my ends when I'm going to sleep before undo-ing the twists/braids. I'm going to try that next time around.

  2. very cute! I tried doing a braid out a couple weeks ago doing cornrows but I had the weird bends so I clipped it up. did mine dry too. baggying sounds like a great idea for more definition. thanks for sharing!

  13. Nice! I don't think I've ever seen you with a braidout. Wouldn't baggying leave you with a limp braidout?

    1. You'd simply let the hair dry before undoing the braids.
