| Texture shot of freshly washed and conditioned hair. |
I started off by pre-pooing with a mix of hempseed, grapeseed, and safflower oil (ceramide cocktail lol!) for about an hour. Next, I clarified with
Redken Hair Cleansing Cream Shampoo. I hadn't clarified my hair for a month so I figured I was due because moisturizing and sealing every night, regular scalp massages with my sulphur mix, and hard water in my home all contribute to product and mineral build up on my hair. After I clarified, I followed it up with a sulfate free, moisturizing shampoo: Paul Mitchell (PM) Awapuhi Wild Ginger Moisturizing Lather Shampp (every time I write out the name of this shampoo, I can't help but think its way too long!). Then, I applied
Roux Porosity Control for 30 seconds. I had originally planned to go straight to deep conditioning at this point but decided to apply PM Super Skinny Daily Treatment to really smooth my new growth and make it more manageable. After, I deep conditioned for hour under my heat cap with
KeraPRO Restorative Treatment. After I applied my leave in conditioner and serum,
Darcy's Botanicals Leave-In Conditioner and PM Super Skinny Serum, I roller set my hair. I flat ironed my roots once my hair was dry with
Hana Titanium 1.5" flat iron I received from Misikko.com.
This was the best set I've done all year as part of
EbonyCPrincess' Six Month Roller Set Challenge! I was so happy with how light and bouncy my hair came out. I had worn my hair in a bun the entire week, that was none too cute, I just bunned it and moved on, so having my hair done actually made
feel better.
The way my ends look when my hair is air dried versus after a roller set is extremely deceiving. I couldn't stand my ends all week to the point where I thought about cutting my hair after this wash. I have to remind myself with the three textures, my ends are going to look off and uneven. So note to self, hide the scissors when my hair isn't straight. I was also suppose to buy some mesh rollers to try out the week
but what had happened was but forgot to order in time. To preserve the body and curls, I put my hair up into two loose pincurls before bed.
Now on to the pict
chaaass...

I recorded how I flat ironed my roots, but I'm behind in editing and posting videos, but I'll try and get to it as soon as I can.
Hope everyone has a great weekend! HHG!
P.S. The blog turns 3 next month. My how time flies!
Your hair looks amazing!!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteYour curls look great!!! I'm looking forward to seeing that video.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope to get around to editing it today.
DeleteHow many weeks post relaxer are you Jen?
ReplyDelete3 days shy of 8 weeks
DeleteI found you from Ally's blog; you commented on my comment about sulfur 8! I was going to ask the very same question after seeing the pics! You have some wavy NG girl! Mine at 8 weeks looks like all tight like a clothed scrunchie Lol...... Great rollerset results tho:)
DeleteThanks!
DeleteGorgeous as always! I can't wait until my hair is your length and fullness - you're truly a hair inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAwww thank you!
DeleteBeautiful as always~you make roller setting look so easy! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! It took MANY failed sets to get the hang of it
DeleteI love your blog. Thanks for posting all this helpful information. I'm 2 months into my hair journey, everytime I have a question about something I come here. Your curls are amazing. Keep up the great work. Thank You.
ReplyDeleteYour sets always turn out so perfect! Love the pics!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures; your hair looks amazing. It is so cool of you to take the time to share the details and the pictures. I'm so happy I found your blog. Not only is it informative, it is also fun and inspiring. I started my hair journey in April 2011 (when I found your blog) and went from SL to APL by November 2011. This year, its BSL or longer. Thanks again, chica! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Jeni
ReplyDeleteYour rollerset looks amazing. After a few failed attempts, i finally gave up on doing one. I'm thinking of getting my hair cut so that i can start afresh this year. It's just a few inches shy of APL but i've got thin ends as i've stopped relaxing my hair bone straight.
Can you recommend some hair products i can use to maintain the moisture-protein balance in my hair (shampoo-conditioner-leave in)? I usually don't have much time to deep condition my hair after washing it because i live with 4 others, study full time and work as well. Being in Australia also means i don't have access to a variety of hair products.
These are the brands i have easy access to:
Joico (currently have the moisture recovery balm)
Biolage
Redken
Paul Mitchell
Goldwell
Herbal Essences (i have the long term relationship)
L'Oreal
Sorry for the long comment :)

This is one of the most BEAUTIMOUS sets I've ever seen! Gorgeeeeeous! I have been trying to use up products that were almost gone and I love the PM super skinny serum! I used it before the start of my HHJ so I hadn't revisited in quite some time. Definitely a staple! I'm going to start using that instead of the Kerapro for my sets.
ReplyDeleteI reblogged this on tumblr; it looks awesome!!! Body for days!!!!
ReplyDeleteyou have DREAM HAIR! That is allllllllll I have to say right now. Simply WOW.
ReplyDeleteYour sets are coming out perfect these days. Just a tad bit jealous, although I've been getting better results with my own. Your hair is also looking a lot browner than usual & I think it's fabulous.
ReplyDelete& thank you for doing the video on flat ironing your roots. I look forward to watching.
Thanks! Trust me, when I first started, it wasn't all sunshine and flowers haha, my sets were awful.
DeleteRe: hair color: really??? I make sure to use color neutral products because I want to keep my natural color just the way it is. Thanks for mentioning it, I'm going to have to compare pics of the last 2-3 months and see if I can pinpoint anything.
Re: video, my pleasure!

Thanks ladies!!! :)
This set is really gorgeous. It came out beautifully. I need to go ahead and purchase another dryer so I can get back to setting my hair. This look came out really pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYour roller sets always look so beautiful. I know I shouldn't be but am super jealous of your hair!!! I love the health, the thickness, the colour, the length and the results you get when rollersetting.
ReplyDeleteKeep the wash day posts coming....I love 'em. Nothing like a bit of envy to keep me motivated. (",)

Thank you! I know exactly how you feel. When I browse through MBL and WL threads on hair boards, makes me a bit jealous. I just keep telling myself "one day, one day!" Lol :)
DeleteVery beautiful , another roller set success for Jeni . I see you disable disquis , now i can only post as anonymous . :(
ReplyDeletePsychoc
Thank you.
DeleteYeah I did, I'm sorry! I was having a lot of issues with comments not syncing between the Blogger platform and the Disquis comment system so I gave up and reverted back to regular ol' Blogger comments. Hopefully Blogger will update their comment system to allow commenters to use a screen name if they wish! *wishful thinking*
I love your hair!!! It's absolutely amazing!
ReplyDelete*drools* Beautiful set! My goodness :)
